Visit to "Tiger Town", Jan 21, 2002
Arriving in Clemson, mid-afternoon on this bright sunny day, I knew my visit was going to be a tigerrific one. Nestled in the hills of South Western Carolina, the campus is a beatiful place to study. Starting out as a military college in the mid 1800's, it quickly gained a tiger-reputation. Today it is filled with Tiger Pride. Are you on the team? The town of Clemson is pretty small - most of what's "happening" can be found on a strip leading to the main campus. On this street are loads of shops selling tigrobilia (yes, I did buy quite a bit), On the right is the Knickerbocker tiger saying "I want YOU!"
If you're feeling dry, and it's a pub you desire, you should head to the Tiger Town Tavern, which is celebrating its 25th year. The Tavern has an especially cool logo - a "drunk" tiger lying on a mug of beer.

Inside you'll find this tigerrific mural!The alternative place to have a pint is "The Esso Club". Only in Tiger Town. Remember the Esso Tiger? This place is right next to an old Esso Station! Anyway, compared to the Tavern, it's rather dingy, but still worth checking out. They have a few Esso Tiger things on display - maybe I should donate my entire Esso Tiger collection to this place someday, to be enjoyed by all.
